Election of 1976
The United States presidential election of 1976 followed the resignation of President Richard Nixon in the wake of the Watergate scandal. It pitted incumbent President Gerald Ford, the Republican candidate, against the relatively unknown former governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter, the Democratic candidate. Ford was saddled with a slow economy and paid a political price for his pardon of Nixon. Carter ran as a Washington outsider and reformer and won a narrow victory. He was the first president elected from the Deep South since Zachary Taylor in 1848. That's too long of a time to not have one of my good old southern boys.
Good BYe Nix
After his role in the Watergate conspiracy had finally come to light, the president resigned. His successor, Gerald Ford, immediately pardoned Nixon for all the crimes he committed or may have committed while in office. Although Nixon was never prosecuted, the Watergate scandal changed American politics forever, leading many Americans to question their leadership and think more critically about the presidency.
WaterGate Scandal
Early in the morning of June 17, 1972, several burglars were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), located in the Watergate building in Washington, D.C. This was no ordinary robbery: The prowlers were connected to President Richard Nixon’s reelection campaign, and they had been caught while attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. While historians are not sure whether Nixon knew about the Watergate espionage operation before it happened, he took steps to cover it up afterwards, raising “hush money” for the burglars, trying to stop the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from investigating the crime, destroying evidence and firing uncooperative staff members.
MR. Crazy?
McGovern's Vice Presidential candidate Thomas Eagleton was just asked to withdraw from the campaign by McGovern after McGovern found out Eagleton underwent psychiatric electroshock therapy for depression. Eagleton hid this from McGovern. McGovern said he would fully support Eagleton when he found out, but three days later McGovern asked Eagleton to step down what a b***h. What was he thinking?? I don't want any dude like that controlling our country. No way! Why would I want anyone controlling us anyone.
THe election of 1972
The presidential election is between incumbent Republican Richard Nixon and Democratic nominee George McGovern and is interesting to say the least. McGovern runs an anti-war campaign against Nixon while Nixon ridiculed McGovern because Nixon claimed peace was being established in Vietnam. McGovern ran on platform of ending the Vietnam War and wanted to institute guaranteed minimum incomes for the nations poor. Nixon says that McGovern is radical but I don't know if I believe that.
